There will be a reception from 5:30 to 8 p.m. with the exhibit continuing until Oct 7.

From the colorful boats in Nice Harbor, to the hard scrabble shores of Newfoundland, to the rugged coast of Maine, and docks along the shores of Connecticut, Kretsch has followed his passion for observing life by the harbor.

The photographic exhibition is a collection of images created over many years of observing life near the edge of the harbor.

Members of the Mill River Band get together backstage tonight with members of the Westport Young Woman’s League before the band’s Levitt Pavilion performance. Carleigh Welsh (4th r), the Levitt’s marketing and development director, said: “We call the Mill River Band the Levitt Pavilion’s ‘house band’ and tonight’s sponsor, the Westport Young Woman’s League, is an organization that helped build that house back in the early 70s. The WYWL was one of the first organizations to get behind the idea that would go on to become the Levitt Pavilion, and they have supported us every year since .When building the new Levitt Pavilion, they awarded us the first ever $10,000 super grant.” (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Contributed photo

Honoring Our Heritage: 28 Compo Road North

The owners of the house at 28 Compo Road North are the newest recipients of a Westport Historical Society (WHS) historical plaque. Bob Weingarten, WHS plaque historian, presented the plaque to Josh and Jane Moritz, who moved into the house, known as the Elizabeth Groman House c. 1899, in November. According to Weingarten, the house was built by Elizabeth Gorman in c.1899 after purchasing the property from Mary Fitch Page Winslow, second wife of Richard Winslow, in 1891.  Josh Moritz said he and his wife, Westport residents for 17 years, downsized from their former house on Willow Walk, off North Avenue. Granger at the Movies: ‘Café Society,’ ‘Bad Moms,’ ‘Ice Age: Collision Course’

By Susan Granger

Special to WestportNow

“The Rockies may crumble, Gibraltar may tumble…” but Woody Allen continues to churn out one movie each year. From classic Manhattan comedies (“Annie Hall”) to memorable character studies (“Blue Jasmine”) to stylish crime-capers (“Match Point”), that’s something moviegoers can count on.

Set in the 1930s, “Café Society” is a bittersweet coming-of-age tale, as eager, earnest Bobby Dorfman (Jesse Eisenberg) moves from the Bronx to Hollywood, where he goes to work for his pretentious Uncle Phil (Steve Carrell), a name-dropping, big-time talent agent.

Not surprisingly, Bobby immediately falls in love with Phil’s pretty secretary, Vonnie (Kristen Stewart), who drives him to see movie stars’ mansions in Beverly Hills.

“Menial errands are my specialty,” Bobby guilelessly explains, “but I don’t see a great future in it.” Trying not to be intoxicated by the shallow glitz and schmoozing gossip, he, nevertheless, marvels, “I’ve never mixed Champagne with bagels and lox.”
