Austin Sholes’ power header off Vaughan Sealey’s corner kick staked the Staples boys soccer team to a second half lead at Norwalk tonight. But the Bears – like the Wreckers, one of the top teams in the FCIAC – equalized 14 minutes later. The Bears poured on pressure, but Staples’ defense – and heroic keeper Ry Cohen – stood firm. The 1-1 draw gives Staples a 4-2-2 record, as they head into the second half of the regular season. On Monday they host Brien McMahon, in a 4 p.m. start. The battle of the unbeaten came down to a first half header. Trumbull made their goal stand up, edging Staples 1-0 today in a battle of two unbeaten boys soccer teams. A save on a penalty kick with less than five minutes remaining iced the victory for the Eagles. Staples got excellent performances from Rob Diorio, Nick Ambrose, Josh DeDomenico and Nick DiMasi, plus a strong game from keeper Ry Cohen.
