Gaining 3rd Place in Triathlon Image
UPDATE Westport resident John Hubble, 33, a Bridgewater employee, today came in third in final results of the Fairfield County Bank Westport Kiwanis Triathlon in a time of 42:03, among non-relay participants at Compo Beach. Hubble, a native of Columbus, Ohio, initially looked like the unofficial winner. But in the final results, veteran Shane Meehan, 49, a practicing dermatopathology doctor of New York, a previous multiple winner, came in first with a time of 38:27. The triathlon distances included a 0.5 mile swim, 5.5 mi bike ride and 2.2 mile run.  According to race organizers there were 310 participants ranging in age from 8 to 75. Winner of 10-Mile Run Image
Dan Lennox, 38, an Episcopal priest at St. Luke’s Parish, Darien, today won the Road Runners Club 10-mile race, in the unofficial time of 59:50, the final event in the 56th annual summer series. Lennox, married and the father of a 7-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter, also won the event in 2013. The Westport Parks and Recreation series, led by race director Laddie Lawrence for the past 53 years, attracted 154 registrants. The race started and ended near Staples High School. Gold’s Dragoons (in red) prevailed today over longtime rival Squadron A at the Fairfield County Hunt Club’s newly renamed Tommy Glynn Invitational Polo Cup. The match, preceded by a day of family fun, benefitted the Bridgeport Hospital Foundation’s REACH program, an outpatient psychiatric program for adolescents 5-17 years old. Gallery: Honoring Laddie Lawrence’s 50 Years at Staples

There was a surprise party today at Staples High School for Laddie Lawrence to honor his 50 years of track and running coaching at the school.  Many former students and colleagues turned out to honor Lawrence, a 1964 Staples graduate, including retired coach Paul Lane who introduced him to track.
