By Judy Szablak

Among Westport’s most prized neighborhoods is an inherently charming area known as Old Hill, which has been a favorite in town for many years.

There are a number of vintage or antique homes located here, with some dating back to the Revolutionary and Victorian eras.

However, some magnificently designed newer homes also dot the landscape.

Less than 10 percent of the 322 homes that are on the market town-wide are in this neighborhood, yet only seven homes that are currently available here are less than 10 years old.

After more than five years on Railroad Place in Saugatuck, Ron’s Barber Shop has moved to 190 Main St. in space formerly occupied by Sally’s Palace. Ron Provenzano, a Bridgeport native, opened the shop in Saugatuck in March 2009 and said at the time,  “it’s always been a dream of mine to open a shop in Westport.” (See WestportNow March 23, 2009). The shop is open seven days a week: Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com

Real Estate Report: Allure of Waterfront Property Remains

By Judy Szablak

The allure of waterfront property in Westport remains evident, and whatever concern that the ripple effects of Sandy would hurt this segment of the market seems to have dissipated in a relatively short period of time.

Right now, there are 53 Westport homes identified through our Multiple Listing Service as having direct waterfront of some kind, whether it be Long island Sound, the Saugatuck River, Bermuda Lagoon, or a pond, lake or brook. These homes have approximately 4,900 square feet on average, and have a median price of $2,795,000.

However, of particular interest is the Saugatuck Shore area, which has only 13 waterfront homes available at this time, ranging in price from $879,000 to $11.5 million.

This market area has a better than expected sale ratio and absorption rate, and the average sale price here is just over $3.2 million. With such limited supply, and a number of still reasonably priced homes, it appears that this area is on the upswing, and timing is equally as good for either sellers or buyers
