Staples Edges New Canaan to Advance to FCIAC Final
The Staples football Wreckers tonight defeated the New Canaan Rams 14-7 to advance to the FCIAC final against Greenwich at home on Thanksgiving Day.
The victory came in double overtime in a driving rain at New Canaan after the teams played to a 7-7 tie at the final whistle. Staples improved to 8-0 on the season.
Staples scored first in the second overtime and then stopped the Rams on the two yard line to gain victory.
The win avenged last year’s 14-13 loss to New Canaan on the Wreckers’ home field, the first defeat at home in 28 games. The loss allowed New Canaan to advance to the FCIAC championship game against Greenwich.
