The battle of boys soccer defending state champions turned decisively in Staples’ favor today.

The Wreckers – defending “LL” (extra large schools) state champs – shut down the “L” (large school) champion Brookfield, 5-1.

A large Loeffler Field crowd saw Staples explode for three goals in the first 12 minutes, en route to the win.

The Wreckers, now 9-1-2, host equally hot Greenwich (8-1-1) on Tuesday. Game time is 4 p.m. Today’s loss was the first of the season for Brookfield (8-1-2).

Staples Edges McMahon 21-13 to Remain Unbeaten

The Staples High School football Wreckers prevailed tonight to edge Brien McMahon 21-13 at Norwalk to improve to 5-0 on the season.

Next up is the Saturday, Oct. 23 Wreckers Breast Cancer Awareness home game against Harding at 2 p.m.

The team’s goal that day is to achieve a “pink out” where all attendees wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness.

Staples senior Jason Mzwickie hauls in a 23-yard pass from senior quarterback Chet Pajolek to score the Wreckers second touchdown of the day today in a home game against Westhill. “You can’t draw a play better than that,” Staples coach Marce Petroccio said. “The protection was good. The route was good. The fake was good, and Chet’s throw was right on the money.” (CLICK TO ENLARGE) WestportNow.com photo
