Real Estate Report: Pay Attention to ‘Price Pockets’

By Judy Szablak

Special to WestportNow

Certain “price pockets” in Westport are experiencing more activity than others, and it’s important to understand where your home sale or intended purchase falls into those pockets, if at all.

Whether your purpose in evaluating a home has to do with buying or selling, paying special attention to what the market is doing within your range can either save you money on a purchase, or add to your net when you sell.

With 331 homes on the market, the biggest selections are within a few ranges, however the most activity is clearly within the $1.2- $1.3 million price pocket, with only 17 homes on the market and an additional 10 under some stage of deposit.

Less inventory in a particular range and higher deposit and closed ratios indicate a market that is conducive to sellers.

Honoring Our Heritage: 10 Cedar Road

WestportNow.com Image
The owners of the house at 10 Cedar Road are the newest recipients of a Westport Historical Society (WHS) historical plaque. Bob Weingarten, WHS plaque historian, presented the plaque to owners Nathalie Jacob and her husband Simon Gilbert. According to Weingarten, the deed for the house says it was built in 1928 by Jennie Lucas who was assessed that year for a single dwelling assessed at $4,000. The Colombia-born Jacob and British-born Gilbert family purchased the house last year, having relocated from Norwalk. Weingarten said all research material was obtained from publicly available sources and his granddaughter, Samantha Godwin, 15, a rising junior at Weston High School, assisted in the research process.
