Report: Anne Hathaway Sold Compo Beach Home

Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway has quietly sold her 1920s Colonial residence near Compo Beach, Variety reported today.

Describing the transaction as an apparent “off-market deal,” it said the sale price was $2.7 million, $90,000 less that she and husband Adam Shulman paid for the property two years ago.

A report from the Town Clerk’s Office confirmed the sale price of the Compo Road South address at one time known as CompoBello in late October at $2.7 million.

Variety said Hathaway and her husband are rumored to have purchased a larger, waterfront home in the area.

Real Estate Report: Cold Season Good Time to Sell

By Judy Szablak

Special to WestportNow

One major misconception about putting a Westport home on the market during the colder season is that it is not the best time to sell.

However, last year’s winter season from November through February was the best we have had in years, with an approximate 48 percent jump in residential home sales over the three prior years in the same time period.

In fact, of the 45 homes that were reported as sold over $5 million in the last 10 years, 12 closed during the colder months. That translates to over 26 percent of all the higher priced sales, and not something that should be underestimated or dismissed.

It is a fact that there are not as many buyers out at this time of year, and the colder season really isn’t the most convenient time to move, however buyers that are searching for their next home during this time are generally more serious. In other words, they aren’t just not “window shopping.”

WestportNow.com Image
Christie’s Kitchen Country Store, 161 Cross Highway, will close next month under operator John Hooper. “We’ll close sometime between Dec. 7 and the holidays,” he said. The former Wall Street investment manager has operated the business since 2009 in what he calls “a labor of love.” Hooper said his lease was up, the septic system cannot be expanded to handle more business, and now he will have time to aid wife Renee in her White Oak Farm and Table food endeavor. Property owner Tim Purcell, who operates the adjacent Christie’s Service auto repair, said he is in talks with a successor tenant and hopes he will open a similar business early in the year. Christie’s, a neighborhood favorite, traces its origins to 1926 when Christie Masiello opened a fruit and vegetable stand on Cross Highway. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com

WestportNow.com Image
Sundance, a retailer of men’s and women’s apparel, will open at 97 Main St. in space formerly occupied by Ann Taylor, which closed in April after more than 50 years presence in Westport. According to real estate agent Skip Lane of Westport, the space is currently undergoing extensive flood proofing. Flooding has repeatedly impacted Main Street stores in the past. He said discussions are underway with town officials to expedite the permitting process, which make space previously occupied by Nike, Allen Edmonds, Chico’s and Diptyque, more desirable to prospective tenants. The Westport Sundance store, its first in Connecticut, will be its 16th store across 13 states. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com
