An application for a permit to demolish the house at Westport’s 25 Westfair Drive, off Post Road East, is in process. Real Estate Report: Online Estimates Are Often Off

By Judy Szablak

Determining an appropriate value for your Westport home by relying on any one of the plethora of online property evaluation sites is not the most prudent idea, especially given the fact that any one of almost 600 real estate professionals that work in town can give you a more accurate figure.

A few of these websites offer good basic information, but it stops there. They are in no way a reasonable substitute for a local real estate agent’s price opinion, especially given neighborhood nuances.

For example, there may be one side of your street that is more desirable than the other side. These easy online evaluators do not account for that in their algorithms.

There are also perceived or real neighborhood boundaries that are not understood by a computer, and the variable of unknown enhancements and/or condition of the subject property that an online pricing module simply cannot interpret.

New Look for Former Mansion Clam House

WestportNow.com Image
Workmen were busy today removing the siding of the former Mansion Clam House, 541 Riverside Ave., in preparation for the debut there of Parker Mansion, a steak house. No date for the opening has been announced. Owner Patrick Fahy owns Parker Steaks & Scotch in Trumbull and Parker Eatery & Bar in Stratford. Mansion Clam House closed in October 2014 after having been there since 1958 on the site of a former “fried clam shack.” The property, which includes the adjoining Julian’s Brick Oven Pizza, changed hands in April 2014 for $2.1 million. The listing said the building was built in 1900. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Bob Eckman for WestportNow.com
