Gallery: Work Progressing on Multi-Family Housing Project

Scenes as work is progressing on a 94-unit multi-family housing project at 1177 Post Road East with target completion date late next year. Thirty percent of the units, or 29, will be affordable housing as provided under the 8-30g affordable housing statute. The Planning and Zoning Commission approved the four-story project in September 2016. (See WestportNow Sept. 1, 2016) Developer Philip Craft, working with partners Steve and Scott Lawrence and Arthur Hersh, has said 54 units would be studios with the balance of 40 one-bedroom apartments around 750-800 square feet. The 42,000-square-foot building sits on a 1.96-acre parcel and is planned as a green, adaptive reuse of a commercial office building for the local workforce, according to its developers. Overseeing construction is longtime Westporter Jay Kowalsky, co-owner with family member Beau, Jr, of a new construction company, Kowalsky Construction, LLC. It is familiar turf for Kowalksky. “I built this place in 1980, and now I’m tearing it down,” he said. The Kowalsky family sold the property to the developers for $6.8 million in 2016 (See WestportNow Feb.1, 2016) The project will include an exposed parking lot and an additional concealed parking lot underneath—152 parking spaces in all. Senate Tax Bill Would Have Big Impact on CT Homeowners, Small Businesses

By Ana Radelat

www.ctmirror.org

Washington – The Senate decided to go its own way in overhauling the nation’s tax code, and its plan would have a different impact on Connecticut taxpayers than a similar House bill.

The Senate bill would push back for a year President Donald Trump’s top priority of cutting the corporate tax rate from a maximum of 35 percent to 20 percent.

Holding off implementation of the new rate would lower the cost of the bill by $100 billion, but it also would delay the GOP’s plans to entice businesses to move offshore operations back to the United States.

The biggest changes affecting individuals in Connecticut is the bill’s elimination of the deductibility of property taxes. The House plan would allow deducting these taxes up to $10,000.
