Wilton Nips Staples in Boys Soccer

The Staples boys soccer team today played one of its best matches of the year with a large Loeffler Field crowd cheering them on. But an opportunistic corner kick with six minutes to play gave Wilton a narrow 2-1 win, in a tense battle for an FCIAC playoff spot. The Wreckers scored first, as Spencer Daniels rebounded in a shot by Daniel Perez Elorza. The Warriors responded with a pair of second half goals. It was Staples’ first loss since opening day, 10 games ago. The Wreckers travel to Fairfield Warde on Monday (7 p.m.), to tackle the FCIAC leaders.
