Westport’s Sean Mulcahy says “Im on the bubble” over chances of being drafted for National Football League play this weekend.
The 6-foot-6, 292-pound four-year standout defensive lineman at the University of Connecticut and 2000 Staples grad made the comment in an interview with the Middletown Press.
Joe Linta, MulcahyҒs Branford-based agent, agrees with that assessment, the newspaper reported.
But he also believes that if Mulcahy falls off the draft bubble, his chances of playing in the NFL are still excellent.
“Im much more convinced of him playing in September than being drafted on Sunday,” Linta said.
The first three rounds of the draft are Saturday—beginning at noon on ESPN—and the final four rounds are held Sunday.
If Mulcahys name isnҒt called then, Linta said its a lock that heҒll sign as a free agent somewhere Sunday night and be headed to a mini-camp Monday.
“I know Ill be on a team Monday morning and thatҒs all I can ask for,” Mulcahy said.
“It will be a dream come true to be on a team. Monday isnt a thing to me right now because you really donҒt get paid until you make a team in September.”
