$2 million tear-down, unbelievable. So much for the bubble-burst.
Here, Here!
Now, if this property had been below the Merritt and accessible to town sewers, it would become eligible, should a Westport zoning text-amendment pending before P&Z pass, to be sub-divided into two lots, on which at least 40 condo units could be built. 80% lot coverage, 3-foot side setbacks, dumpsters and 80 parking spaces. Right in the middle of a single-family residential zone. 3 large houses would look like paradise compared to that scenario.
On September 7th, The P&Z will begin hearing the text amendment proposed by Redcoat Development for the “floating” zone, which would allow these types of high-density condo developments in much of Westport. The first place this zone would be applied would be in the middle of the Gorham Avenue Historic District (Gorham Avenue and Main Street). And if it passes, this is how our town will develop. Developers are already making inquiries with realtors about lots that would qualify for this new zone. Make no mistake about it; this is a very real and imminent threat.
If you are interested in learning more, or would like copies of the proposed text ammendment, please email me at John@GorhamNeighbors.org . And mark your calendars for the September 7th P&Z meeting at 8 PM in Town Hall.
