WestportNow Teardown of the Day: 45 Owenoke Park

WestportNow.com Image
An application for a permit to demolish the house at Westport’s 45 Owenoke Park in the Compo Beach area is in process. Built in 1920, the two-story colonial has 3,161 square feet, is situated on a .71-acre waterfront property and changed ownership last month for $5,455,000.  Because the house was built more than 50 years ago, the application will be reviewed by the Westport Historic District Commission. 1. This is a beautiful house that has significant local architectural and historic value. If Westport residents still have any sense, houses like these should be candidates only for remodeled- with preservation goals leading the remodeling goals.. But they absolutely should not be torn down. And if it is torn down, I suggest all members of the Historic District Commission be dismissed immediately.. Any town historic commission person(s) who would allow this proposed teardown to take place must either be directly taking payments from developers, or accessing significant “favors” from developers, or are the developers themselves. There is no other valid explanation I can think of. And I speak as either a resident or homeowner in Westport for 59 years total.
