An application is in process to request a permit to demolish the house at 22 Sturges Commons in Westport. Built in 1946, the 1-1/2 story cape has 2,892 square feet and is situated on one acre. Because it was built more than 50 years ago, the application will be reviewed by the Historic District Commission at its July session. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com

Yikes….I am in total shock to see that this gorgeous home is going to be demolished. An ivy-covered stone home almost 3000 sq.ft on one acre……perfect!!!!! Why would anyone want to destroy this gem only to replace it with a MC-UGLY MC-MANSION??
What am i missing guys?
How do you know if it will be a big house (though one could guess that might be the final result)? Have you reviewed the application?
matt…i no longer live in Westport. After living in the most wonderful town in the world, circumstances happened and we moved to Florida 4 1/2 years ago. Westportnow.com is the first place i go to on my computer when i awake to catch up on whats happening and its my way of still feeling connected. And when i see these beautiful houses leaving the landscape of Westport, it just breaks my heart.
As an FYI, the current owner bought it in 2004, so it doesn’t have the appearance of a flip. I could be wrong.
