An application for a permit to demolish the house at Westport’s 199 Newtown Turnpike is in process. Built in 1880, the one-story ranch has 1,121 square feet, is situated on a .3-acre property and was purchased by the Town of Westport for $425,000 to convert it to open space and for flood mitigation. (See WestportNow Dec. 2, 2014) Located in a AA-residential zone on the west branch of the Saugatuck River, the 1,100-square-foot home has been abandoned since Hurricane Irene in 2011. Federal funds will reimburse the town for the purchase. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com
