It would be interesting to look back on some of the Teardowns and see what has been built in their place. Which have been tastefully done, which are monstrosities, which are tasteful monstrosities…
This looks to be an early 20th century home. I hope the Historic Review committee is involved in this one. I’ve seen a few really lovely old homes disappear after approval for teardown – is any application ever actually denied??

And which ones would have qualified for being re-zoned for 15 condos per acre under Amendment 562…..
I guess Westporters want their town to look like Wisteria Lane on “Desperate Housewives”. What a pity.
OK then, let’s just ban all construction and remodelling. We can freeze the town population too, not to exceed 25,000? Think of the money we’d save, no Building Dept, no ZBA (yes I know it’s volunteer but it still costs us all money), no school expansion issues, no growth at all. And our property values would still go up because we’d be a closed community.
Seems like these are action items for the Town Plan.
This house is not circa 1935, it is circa 1900. Why does the Town not require more accurate information with the submission of a demolition permit?
I think your date is correct – the town may be using dates from additions or renovations. It looks as if this house may have a closed-in porch dating later than the original structure. If so, I hope that the Historic Commission members have background knowledge appropriate to their task.
Let’s also hope that people submitting demolition applications are not also furninshing the historic information that accompanies it.
