An application for a permit to demolish the house at Westport’s 12 St. John Place, off Main Street, is in process. Built in 1914, the 1-1/2 story conventional has 1,237-square feet and is situated on a .28-acre property. Because the house was built more than 50 years ago, the application will be reviewed by the Westport Historic District Commission. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com

Demolitions like this and others are stripping Westport’s soul away. The Historical Society has displayed no true interest in saving Westport from the rapist developers. It is all about money, money, allow them to keep it up and Westport will be a housing unit for people with children who don’t want to pay for private schools.
Sadly, I have to agree with you David Warburg.
The Westport Historic Society doesn’t have the ability to save these homes. These decisions are made by the Historic District Commission (HDC). These organizations are NOT the same.
I know over his career Mr. Warburg has made enormous contributions to the town of Westport and the well-being of its residents. Its important that the HDC have members on it who reflect the interests of our community. If, like Mr. Warburg, you are concerned about tearing down certain (or all) these homes, please join the HDC.
