Westport U11 Girls Warriors Reach Finals of Connecticut Cup Tournament

The Westport U11 Girls Warriors soccer team has advanced to the finals of the Connecticut Cup tournament.

Saturday’s 2-1 win over Glastonbury Hartwell clinched a berth for the Westport team.

The Connecticut Cup is held each spring and fall to identify the best travel soccer teams in the state.  Sixty U11 Girls teams entered the tournament, and Westport will play Farmington on Saturday with statewide bragging rights on the line.

Also on Saturday, three other Westport travel soccer teams participated in closely contested Connecticut Cup semifinals.

The U14 Girls Wave were defeated by a strong West Haven team 2-0. The U12 Boys Warriors met their match in a close 1-0 game with Avon, while the U11 Boys Blue Devils succumbed to a strong Simsbury team, also by the score of 1-0.

The Westport Soccer Association (WSA) is the only youth soccer club in the state with so many teams represented in the final four rounds of the Connecticut Cup.

The players and coaches of these teams who are among the best four teams in Connecticut in their age group, should be very proud of their accomplishment,Ӕ said Mickey Kydes, Coaching Director of the WSA and founder and president.

The U11 Girls team in particular is having an outstanding season considering that this is the first season they have been together as a team.Ӕ

The Warriors will face Farmington on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Newington High School for the Cup finals.
