Westport Schools on Three-Hour Delay Friday

Westport Superintendent of Schools Colleen Palmer said tonight Westport schools will be on a three-hour delay Friday.

That decision will be reviewed with a confirmation email to parents at 8:30 a.m., she said.

Palmer sent this email to parents:

Dear Families of Westport Students,

District Plan for tomorrow, Friday, March 9

There will be a 3-hr. delayed opening of all our schools based on anticipated repair work that can be accomplished overnight before our buses roll in the morning.

We will send all parents a Connect Ed message at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow morning either confirming that we can continue with a 3-hr. delayed opening or alerting parents that conditions warrant closing another day.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

The town crews and Eversource are prioritizing the most hazardous situations first, and making sure all main roads are open.

Even with a 3-hr. delay, every downed wire will not be addressed before students leave for school.

We are asking that parents accompany their students to bus stops as an extra measure of caution tomorrow morning.

While crews are working as quickly as possible to address every issue, assume anything on the ground is still energized and stay away.

If any parent opts to keep their student out of school tomorrow as they feel specific circumstances near their home are too hazardous, those students will be fully excused from school.

During the night the winds may shift things and create new hazards – please check your surroundings and make the decision that is right for your children.

NO TESTS OR QUIZZES WILL BE ADMINISTERED TOMORROW

We don’t want any academic pressures to influence what you think is the right decision for your children. We will be thrilled if we can just welcome our students back to our classroom, even if it is a partial day.

Sincerely,

Colleen Palmer
