Westport Girls Softball will hold a party for girls from kindergarten through fifth grade Saturday, March 11 at the Staples High School field house.
The two-hour event beginning at 1 p.m., with music and decorations, is intended to help youngsters discover the fun of the game, according to organizers.
Among those on hand will be professional coach Emily Robustelli of Integrated Sports Training in Norwalk as well as Westport Little League coaches certified by the National Youth Sports Coaches Association.
“Attendees will receive a free t-shirt and can win prizes in the simple, fun games like base running races that we will hold,” an announcement said. There also will be “mini-coaching clinics” to show girls the fundamentals of the game.
Also on hand will be the 2005 Westport majors and juniors softball all stars in uniform “to look after and inspire the little ones,” according to the announcement.
All coaching and game activities will be closely supervised and will utilize only “Softee” safety softballs (gloves not necessary).
Information on how to sign up for the 2006 Little League season will be provided on site. Admission is free. Contact Stephen Axthelm at (917) 602-7844 or e-mail .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for more details.
