Waldman disclosed the sale in a noon talk to the Westport Rotary Club and Save the Children confirmed the transaction in a statement several hours later. Waldman said he and an unidentified partner were the buyers.
Save the Children spokesman Jeremy Soulliere said: “Save the Children is delighted to announce that we signed a contract today for the sale of our 54 Wilton Road building.
“The final closing is not expected to occur until November. In the meantime, we are looking to relocate nearby to a property that will be suitable for our growing operations. Our move will not occur before the end of the year.”
Waldman disclosed the deal in answer to a question while addressing a noon meeting of the Westport Rotary Club at The Boathouse Restaurant at the Saugatuck Rowing Club.
Asked by a member if he knew anything about the status of the Save the Children Building, he responded that he did—and said a contract had been signed “about an hour ago” for the sale to him and an unidentified partner.
The 58,771-square foot office building sits on 2.59 acres on the Saugatuck River adjacent to the recently developed National Hall property owned by Greenfield Partners.

The building had been listed for sale in January by Cushman & Wakefield’s Private Capital Group.
Waldman has long been involved in Westport downtown development including the planned Bedford Square project incorporating the current Westport Weston Family Y building.
The Save the Children building was built in 1960 and for many years was home to the Famous Artists School. Save the Children moved there in 1974. It was renovated in 2003.
The charity has about 290 employees in Westport, according to a company spokesman.
