“We are deeply indebted to Terex for this gift,” Joseloff said.  “Even in these difficult economic times, once again Terex has demonstrated its commitment to be an exemplary corporate citizen in Westport, and we are extremely grateful for its generosity.”

“This piece of equipment will allow Westport Emergency Services to provide high intensity lighting at emergency and non-emergency scenes,” said Fire Chief Christopher Ackley. “The supplementary lighting will ensure the safety of the public and emergency service workers.”

He said having a small, portable lighting unit will free up the need to use larger vehicles such as the rescue truck or an engine company to provide emergency lighting when required.

“Having readily available emergency lighting of this type will be helpful not only at accident and crime scenes but in carrying out such routine duties as DUI checkpoints and helping traffic control at the Fourth of July fireworks,” said Police Chief Alfred Fiore.

The light tower, which can be easily driven to needed locations, will be housed at Westport Fire Headquarters and will be available for use if needed by regional emergency responders.

Terex last year donated the use of a site dumpster to the town’s Parks and Recreation Department.

Terex, which has its world headquarters at the Nyala Farms office complex on Greens Farms Road, manufactures a broad range of equipment for use in various industries, including the construction, infrastructure, quarrying, surface mining, shipping, transportation, refining, and utility industries.
