Ted Hampe, longtime chairman of Westport’s HK Group Commercial Real Estate, has resigned his position and his partner, Matthew Keefe, president, will be the sole operator of the company, it was announced today.

The company will now be known officially as HK Group II, Inc. Hampe’s resignation was effective Dec. 31, a news release said.

The firm has experienced five straight years of continuous growth and is well-positioned to face the challenging future with 10 brokers in sales, leasing and property management, the company said.

Hampe, a graduate of Iowa State University and Harvard Business School, said he is not retiring and “his plans are yet to be revealed.”

Hampe spent the first 20 years of his career in corporate marketing, holding senior positions at Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati (brand manager); then Glendinning Companies in Westport (division president); followed by two New York positions—Sperry & Hutchinson (senior vice president marketing) and Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics (CEO).

A career change in 1981 brought him into the commercial real estate world, first as senior vice president of New York-based Cross & Brown Company, managing Connecticut offices in Westport and Stamford.

Then in 1988, he founded H. T. Hampe Associates, Inc.; and in 2001, the name was changed to HK Group to partner with Matt Keefe, a high-producing broker in the office.

Hampe has been very active in community service leadership over the years, first with the Chamber of Commerce as president; Community Council president; Westport Rotary Club president; town-appointed chairman of the Wassell Lane Affordable Housing Committee; United Way, leadership chairman; Earthplace, The Nature Discovery Center, chairman; and an 11-year trustee of the Westport Weston Family Y.
