Swinging for a Cause

Golfers gathered at Westport’s Longshore Club Park today in support of the Westport Fire Department’s 15th annual golf tournament to raise funds for the Connecticut Burn Care Foundation. Tom Mapes of Newtown tees off on the 3-par, 177-yard No. 15 hole with the incentive of winning a 2011 Volvo with a hole in one. He did not make it. Assistant Fire Chief Robert Kepchar, tri-chairman of the event, said the tournament attracted 20 foursomes. Firefighter Jeff Gootman and Inspector Nate Gibbons also served as tri-chairmen of the event. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com

On behalf of our Benevolent members, we wish to extend our sincere appreciation to this year’s tournament sponsors, golfers, volunteers, and the Parks & Recreation Departnmnet and its Commission.
This is the 15th year of the Fire Department Tournament. The generous support of Westport’s merchants and private citizens has allowed us to collect and donate over $175,000 to Westport non-profits. The generous donation of thousands of hours of time by Westport’s firefighters has kept this a ‘no-overhead’ event since its founding- maximizing what we can give back to the community.
Thanks… and see you in 2012!
