Chalk up another state honor for a Staples High School student. Junior Matthew Greenberg has been awarded third place in the 2009 Connecticut Junior Science and Humanities Symposium.

He was among Connecticut’s most talented young scientists and engineers honored by the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering at its 34th Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner at the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks.

Winners of this year’s Connecticut Science Fair, Connecticut Science Challenge, Connecticut Junior Science and Humanities Symposium, and Connecticut Invention Convention were recognized during the evening ceremonies.

Matthew was recognized for his project “Obesity Pathogenesis: Dissecting the Models of Leptin Resistance.”

Matthew’s project won top honors in February in the ninth annual Southern Connecticut Invitational Science & Engineering Fair at Staples sponsored by the Southern Connecticut Science & Engineering Foundation.

Matthew’s accomplishments are not limited to the science lab. His activities include being co-president of the Staples Grassroots Tennis Club, and last year he won a first place honor in the Reflections contest.
