The proceeds were from ticket sales and funds collected during their recent production of “The Diary of Anne Frank.”
Recipients included the U.S. Memorial Holocaust Museum in Washington. D.C., the Edith and Carl Marks Jewish Community House in Brooklyn, N.Y., and The Anne Frank Center USA in New York, N.Y.
Staples Principal John Dodig applauded the Staples Players on their willingness to reach out to others.
“I heard about the donations while attending a performance of Anne Frank. I was so proud to be the principal of Staples High School at that moment,” he said.
“There is no better way to get a message across to large groups of people than through theater. To use this medium to help others in need in our community and across the country is not something that’s often part of a high school theater organization.”
Earlier this year, Staples Players presented another donation to Habitat for Humanity in Bridgeport, using money raised during performances of “Urinetown, The Musical.”
Players also helped raise money for Staples college tuition grants at last weekend’s Homecoming festivities by singing selections from the group’s forthcoming musical production, “The Wiz.”
