Staples Educator Tells of Time in Iraq

Rich Franzis, an assistant principal at Westport’s Staples High School, told the Westport Rotary Club today about his year in Iraq as a U.S. Army Reserve officer with a rank of lieutenant colonel. Assigned to the 316th Sustainment Command, his mission was to supply the surge forces everything they needed “from celery to vehicles.” Franzis said he was grateful for the support the Staples and Westport community gave him while in the battle zone. He said he was happy to be home, and was still getting used to everything not moving at top speed all the time as was the case in Iraq. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com
