Staples Boys Tennis Class LL State Champs

The Staples Boys Tennis Team today completed a perfect season by winning the Connecituct Class LL team championship at Yale University. The Wreckers edged two-time defending champion Greenwich by 19-18 in tournament match victories.  As was the case last week in the FCIAC team match-play championship, the senior doubles team of Connor Mitnick and Baxter Stein again clinched the victory for Staples in dramatic fashion, this time by being the first Staples duo to win a state doubles championship since 2006. Mitnick and Stein battled back from a set down to defeat Greenwich’s Shaw Speer and Louis McKenzie 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. The last time Staples won the FCIAC and state LL championships in the same season was 1982. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Contributed photo
