UPDATE After first saying the Staples boys soccer team’s state tournament match will be Saturday, organizers said today it will in fact be on Monday at 2 p.m. at Staples.
The 18-2-1 Wreckers take on 12-2-4 Simsbury, in the LL (extra large schools) tournament. Staples, the defending state champ, is coming off a gritty 2-1 overtime victory against Guilford on Thursday.
On Saturday, the Staples football team plays Trumbull in a game that could determine an FCIAC playoff berth.
The game is set for 1:30 p.m.

Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference rules prohibit tournament games on Sundays—except for a final match. Maybe a throwback to the Blue Laws days?
Dan, thanks for the explanation. Hopefully CIAC will reexamine this issue and allow important games to be played on Sundays. I cannot imagine anything better to do tomorrow than watch a soccer state quarter final.
No booze and no soccer on Sundays. Freakin’ Puritans.
I totally understand the reasons for rescheduling the game but am wondering why a game of this importance could not be played on Sunday?
