The Staples boys soccer team exploded for seven first-half goals today, then added another late in the game to open the 2005 season with an 8-0 victory over Bridgeport’s Bassick High School at Bridgeport.
Justin Rodriguez came off the bench to score four straight times, while Ross McGibney added two.
Keaton Cristobal and Ben King had solo strikes for the Wreckers, who expect a sterner test Thursday in their home opener (3:45 p.m. at Staples’ Albie Loeffler Field, vs. Fairfield Warde).

Congratulations to the soccer team. The Staples boys’ cross-country team won yesterday, too. And the news about that victory is forthcoming, I suppose?
