The Staples boys soccer team opened its 2013 season today with a decisive 2-0 shutout over always-tough Danbury. A large Loeffler Hill crowd enjoyed the victory.
Graham Gudis recorded two assists. His first came on a long cross, headed in by fellow sophomore Joe Pravder. The second was off a corner kick. Michael Reid dummied it through, and defender Andrew Puchala slammed it home.
The Wreckers got a strong defensive effort from Steven Sobel. Jack Scott applied pressure up front, and Noah Schwaeber earned the shutout in goal.
Staples travels to New Canaan on Thursday for a 4 p.m. match at Conner Field.
