Staples Boys Soccer in Old-School Tie vs Darien

More than 100 alumni from as far as California and as long ago as the 1960 team, returned to Loeffler Field for today’s Staples boys soccer’s 60th anniversary celebration. They were treated to an old-school-type game against Darien: excellent soccer by two top teams, great defense and selfless attacking by Staples, and a muddy grass field. The final result –- a 0-0 tie—included excellent defending by the Wreckers’ Rob Diorio, Nick Ambrose, Surya Balaji and Patricio Perez Elorza, and secure goalkeeping by Ry Cohen. Staples is now 7-2-4, and travels to Fairfield Ludlowe for a 7 p.m. Monday match. Pictured: mud-streaked Vaughan Sealey is intent on going forward.
