“Smartest Football Team Ever Assembled”

New York Times sportswriter and author Jim Cavanaugh of Wilton told an audience at the Westport Public Library tonight that the New York Giants of the 1956-1963 era was ”the smartest football team ever assembled.” “Giants Among Men,” the writer’s newest book, is about the team that, according to Cavanaugh, “made New York City a football town and changed the NFL forever.” The team was comprised of such well known players as Andy Robustelli, Y.A. Tittle, Frank Gifford, Sam Huff, Kyle Rote, Pat Summerall, Dick Lynch and others. Team personnel included assistant coaches such as Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry.
