The presentation was sponsored by the Friends of the Westport Center for Senior Activities as part of an effort to remind seniors of the importance of maintaining the excellence of Westport’s schools.
Malcolm Watson, a 2001 Staples graduate, went on to graduate from Ithaca College College and then from Columbia University with an MA in social organizational psychology.
He told the audience his passion for running is directly attributable to Staples Coach Laddie Lawrence. Watson has completed both the New York and the Boston marathons.
Sculptor Andrew Davis, Staples 1969, spoke about his training with a master sculptor in the Italian village of Carrara, where he learned the age-old techniques of marble carving and became proficient in the local Italian dialect.
Today Davis works on commissions and teaches at the Silvermine School of Art and at Lifetime Learners at Norwalk Community Colllege.
The third presenters had the audience nodding and toe-tapping to their musical renditions.
John Lamb, Staples 1979, and Scott Williams, Staples 1980, met at Staples and were both involved in the Staples radio station WWPT.
With Lamb on the piano and Willliams on the guitar, they played selections from pieces they had each composed and by other artists. Lamb had heads nodding in time to “He’s A Wild Man,” a selection from his latest CD.
All four speakers gave credit to Staples High School for exerting a positive influence on their lives.
