As Westport’s newest restaurants Tarry Lodge and Shake Shack were opening this week, the owners of the popular Gray Goose Café in Fairfield’s Southport section announced signing a lease to open a new restaurant in the 1802 federal-style Sherwood House on Church Lane in Westport’s center.

Owners Pete Mennona, Tommy Febbraio, and Kevin McHugh announced the move on their Facebook page. “The lease is signed in Downtown Westport. More details to follow very soon!,” said the posting on Tuesday.
Neither the restaurant owners nor building owner Westport developer David Waldman could be reached for comment.
Waldman, who was persuaded by town officials, to save the building instead of tearing it down, has said he envisions the building as a historic setting for a restaurant replete with gaslights, an outdoor dining area in front and lower level for a kitchen.
He said 1,750 square feet on the second floor would be for office space.
The Gray Goose Café opened last July at 246 Old Post Road in Southport, opposite the new Delmar Hotel.
Co-owners McHugh and Febbraio have extensive restaurant backgrounds, according to the Gray Goose website.
“For McHugh, the creative force that brought to South Norwalk The Match and The Loft, and to Ridgefield The Little Pub, the Gray Goose is the latest incarnation of his ever-evolving restaurateur’s vision,” it says.
“For Febbraio, the man behind the old favorites Owned & Operated Tommy’s, Sidetracks, and Arizona Flats Restaurants, The Gray Goose is an expression of his newly reignited love affair with restaurants.”
It added: “The Gray Goose—a restaurant where old world romance meets new world sophistication, where New England tradition meets urban eclecticism, where locally sourced meets exotically inspired, where Kevin and Tommy embark on their latest epicurean adventure.”
