Lawyers for Westport’s Martha Stewart are hard at work on another motion for a new trial based on perjury charges against a key government witness, according to ABC News.
Last week handwriting expert Larry Stewart was charged with perjury. The perjury charge stems from his testimony about ink on a stock brokerage worksheet.
That worksheet was key to the prosecution’s case.
ABC News has learned Stewart’s lawyers will present a motion for a new trial sometime this week.
The judge threw out a previous motion early this month.
No new trial.A mistrial should be declared.All charges should be dropped,and some accountability should be shown to these lying prosecutors.I have such little faith in the judicial system because of this case,Prosecutors will stoop to all levels to try and hang someone,It is a shame Martha can not sue the federal Government for all the money that she lost and the near destruction of her company.
I have always had little faith in our Judicial System, and this case only bolsters the fact that they can’t be trusted. I feel there should not have been a trial in the first place…. she did nothing wrong. What will they go after next??
The whole Martha Stewart trial was a farce in the beginning. Blame this on the lovely mass media which made the whole trial a witch hunt and a way to burn this so called witch. The media didn’t hurt Martha at all they only put the future of her company and her loyal employees at stake. If I were Martha Stewart I would sell the company and give her remaining employees a severance package when the company is dissolved. I would then sell all of my real estate holdings and get out of the United States once all jail time and probation has been completed. Alexis, her daughter could help her Mom in this undertaking if she wished. Kmart and her would need to work out all of the details with her company. Contracts can be made and rewritten if Martha Stewart goes this route.
If she hadn’t lied, she would not have been tried.
To H G last commenter,How can you be sure she lied?were you in the room when Martha and Peter had that agreement?I can speak for myself I can never be sure of what was said between two people in their conversations,but there seems to be a lot of people who do.I would only be guessing,I thought you were to have no doubt this case is all about doubts.Drug user testimony,friend who cannot remember if she thought it or Martha said it.Lying federal employee,lying juror.The only one that is about doubt is Martha the rest are proven liars and drug users.
