This home on 38 Evergreen Ave. is listed at $1,699,000.
This 10-room vintage colonial on 1.53 acres is known as the Von Schmidt Estate, and has quite a cultural history.
Originally built in 1927, this was once the home of the noted Saturday Evening Post illustrator Harold von Schmidt and his son Eric, a Grammy Award winner of coffeehouse/folk style music who was closely associated with Bob Dylan.
The main home was renovated in 2008 and the studio/guesthouse was renovated in 2012; both with special attention made to incorporate today’s features, alongside the charm and history of yesteryear.
The living room with original beams has an oversized brick fireplace and wideboard flooring.
The charming dining room has wainscoting.
The chef’s kitchen with Carrera marble counters features a professional-grade Viking range and the breakfast nook includes a banquette seating area.
The sunken family room is open to the kitchen and has picture frame molding and sliders out to the blue stone patio with sitting walls and overlooks the surprisingly private and scenic property with original grotto and a comforting babbling brook with foot bridge to the boccie court.
Upstairs, the romantic master suite with a private balcony and deck has a gas fireplace and luxurious marble bath with whirlpool and separate shower. Extensive closet space ensures room for all, and the sitting room also has balcony access.
Three additional en suite bedrooms are on this floor, and a recreation room is on the lower level.
The former von Schmidt studio is now a guest cottage and legal rental that includes a family room with cathedral ceilings and two-story fireplace, fully equipped kitchen, and sleeping loft.
Extras and items to note — four bedrooms, four full and one half baths, four fireplaces, main level study with wet bar, separate 929-square foot guest cottage, boccie court, grotto, two car garage plus carport, historic district.
