Rat Pack Back

UPDATE Members of Westport-based Local 371 of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union were back at The Fresh Market today on Post Road East, just as they were when the store opened in October. (See WestportNow Oct. 14, 2009) The Fresh Market store is a nonunion operation, and Local 371 contends it does not pay area standard wages and benefits. The company’s public relations manager, Drewry Sackett, said in a statement: “We’re pleased to have been able to bring 90 good jobs to the Westport area, and we’re proud of our reputation for fair treatment, fair compensation and fair benefits.” (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Contributed photo
