But instead of returning to his Beachside Avenue home in Westport’s Greens Farms area, the former Goldman Sachs and Proctor & Gamble board member is at his Manhattan apartment, they said.
Gupta, 67, was freed Jan. 5 after receiving credit for good behavior against his 30-month sentence, according to Patrick McFarland, a manager for the Federal Bureau of Prisons program in the New York area.
He will remain a federal inmate until March 13, confined to his apartment and required to wear an ankle bracelet that monitors his movements, The New York Times reported.
Since returning to his Manhattan apartment, Gupta has been fielding calls from former associates who say he is in good spirits and looks back on his spell in prison philosophically, the Times said.
A Manhattan federal jury in June 2012 found Gupta guilty of feeding tips about Goldman Sachs at the height of the 2008 financial crisis to hedge fund tycoon Raj Rajaratnam, his friend and business associate.
He reported to prison in June 2014 to the Devens Federal Medical Center in Ayer, Mass., about 40 miles northwest of Boston. (See WestportNow June 17, 2014)
