A stone ice house at 1 Red Coat Road is among nine winners of the Westport Historic District Commission (HDC) 2016 Preservation Awards to be presented in a Town Hall ceremony on Monday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. The HDC said the award will be presented to Albert and Sandra Cordts, owners of the structure, known as the Stone Ice House, circa 1858-1867, “probably built by Frederick H. Nash” and used for storage of ice harvested at Nash’s Pond. The HDC cited the owners “for maintaining and valuing the structure as one of only three known ice houses to have survived in Westport.” (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com
