Artist and “Uncovered What She Hides” exhibit co-organizer Liz Leggett discloses at tonight’s opening reception that she has never exhibited “Slugger” before. Calling it one of her personal favorites, she described it as “a self-perceived portrait.” “I was a good baseball player as a little girl,” she said. “The painting, finished around 1995, has been hidden in my closet. it shows this somewhat menacing little girl.” The bat she was holding is removed from the painting. “It’s the type of art that women have had to edit to mask their personalties,” Leggett said. “I’m exhibiting it now because it’s consistent with the overall theme of this exhibit. This type of exhibit gives me the permission to show it.” (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com
