Nine-year-old Michael Fotin, who is entering fourth grade at Westport’s Greens Farms Academy, has been ranked New England’s top tennis player among boys 10 and under, according to the United States Tennis Association (USTA).
Michael, who first held a tennis racquet at age 3 and began playing competitively at 7, has won 25 of his last 26 USTA tournament matches, according to Alex Fotin, his father.
He plays tennis regularly at the tennis club Chelsea Piers in Stamford, his father said.
“His ultimate goal is to become a tennis pro and get ranked top 10 in the world,” the proud father said.
In addition to tennis tournaments, Michael plays squash, ping-pong, baseball, competitive chess, as well as piano and drums.
As for who is Michael’s favorite tennis player, it is Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka, 29, currently ranked Swiss No. 2 and world No. 4.
“Michael likes his fast and powerful style,” his father said.
Michael is not the only young tennis player in his family.
His sister Maria, who recently turned 7, is also a competitive tennis player.
She and her tennis partner were the runner-ups at the recent Norwalk Grassroots Tennis charity doubles tournament
