Leaders of nonprofits interested in funding to achieve “meaningful social impact in Connecticut” are invited to an information session Tuesday on how to apply for grants of up to $50,000.
The session, sponsored by Social Venture Partners Connecticut (SVP-CT), will be held from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Westport Innovation Hub, 20 Ketchum St. Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP at http://www.socialventurepartners.org/connecticut.
The deadline for submission of letters of Interest for the group’s 2015 investment cycle is Feb. 24.
SVP-CT provides both financial support and strategic advice to nonprofits providing social services that are located in Fairfield County and vicinity.
To date 42 individuals have joined SVP-CT as partners and contribute their resources, time and expertise to worthy endeavors, an announcement said.
The focus of SVP-CT’s multi-year support is on strengthening the core skills, management practices and systems to enhance an organization’s effectiveness, sustainability and ability to fulfill its mission, it said.
Using innovative business principles and market dynamics to achieve social good, SVP seeks to be a catalyst for social enterprise.
Founded in 2013, SVP-CT currently provides support to three nonprofits. Its first recipient was the International Institute of Connecticut (iiCONN), a Bridgeport-based organization that resettles political refugees and victims of torture and trafficking.
Last year it made two new commitments of up to $50,000 annually in support to Harbor Watch and the Connecticut Pre-Engineering Program (CPEP).
Harbor Watch, a unit of Westport-based Earthplace, performs water quality testing for watersheds that impact Long Island Sound and educates students through hands-on research and experiential learning.
With more than 25,000 students served since 1986, CPEP provides transformative out-of-school learning experiences to ignite interest in STEM, strengthen academic foundations, and develop 21st century skills.
