Nearing $4

Premium gasoline is just under the $4 line at the Country Store at the corner of Wilton Road and Newtown Turnpike. Those who use premium are paying $3.99 per gallon. Michael Connelly, the station owner, said it is the highest price ever posted at the station. “We’ve never reached the $4 price yet, but by the time you put this on your Web site it may no longer be that way,” he said. 1. Mr. Beasley,

If by, new administration, you mean different from the Congress that Democrats currently control, then I agree with you.

The following is from the Hill on 4/22/08.

House Republican leaders on Tuesday challenged Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to release a plan to lower gas prices that Democrats touted when they were in the minority.

  2. You can look everywhere for conspiracies for high gasoline prices but you would be best to just look in the mirror. We want energy independence but we don’t want to reduce consumption or drill for oil here in the USA. Look what happened when an LNG port was proposed for the middle of the Long Island Sound. Because of these restrictions, most crude oil is now controlled by national oil companies of unfriendly countries. Many of these countries have declining production as there is little profit incentive for the national oil companies to increase production. The weak dollar does not help us either.

Alternative fuels are a crock also. The silver bullet of ethanol has shot us in the foot. We killed the nuclear industry years ago, windmills kill birds, and solar power is not the best in a densely populated cloudy location like ours. Unfortunately, alternatives will not amount to much in the short to medium term.

Hey, at least higher prices will eventually cut consumption which will be better for the environment and could even reduce traffic on I-95.

Amazingly, when half the oil and gas business was going bankrupt in the late 1990’s, I didn’t see anyone passing the hat for the industry.

  3. Republicans, Democrats … neither will solve the issue. Don’t politicize it.  Start with less Americans driving trucks like the Range Rover in the photo and we’ve got progress.

  4. Some of the oil companies are gauging more than others.  On Wednsday April 30th regular was over $4.00/gallon at Exxon on the Post Road in Town.  And, their profits keep rising!!  There must be something our government can do to control their greed and protect the economy, the public and the dealers themselves.  Hopefully, a new administration will do a better job.

    Albert S. Beasley, M.D.

  5. WestportNow…please reset your computer’s clock…it’s Now 4:15PM in Westport.

SUNOCO on the Post Road across from Playhouse Square has regular for $3.67.
