WestportNow.com Image
Mort Walker (2nd r), best known for creating the newspaper comic strips Beetle Bailey in 1950 and Hi and Lois in 1954, died today of pneumonia at his Stamford home. He was 94. He is pictured in 2007 at the Westport Historical Society, which paid tribute to him and (l-r) son Brian Walker, Chance Brown, and son Greg Walker. The exhibit featured 100 examples of the cartoonist’s art, some dating to the 1950s. Mort Walker was a regular visitor to Westport, often shopping for art supplies at the now closed Max’s Art Supplies on Post Road East and staying to socialize with other artists.
