Is it possible to spend a fortune, transform a funky old barn into a state of the art theatre and still retain the magic that made it what it was?
The answer is an resounding, “Yes!”
The charm, the vitality, the very soul of the theatre have been preserved. I wouldn’t have thought it was possible, but somehow these amazing people have managed to pull off a miracle.
Many parts of the original theatre have been creatively and tastefully melded into the new theatre. Even parts of the original stage were kept. For example, when actors enter from backstage left or right the first thing they’ll walk on is a square of wood from the original Playhouse. I was told Joanne Woodward insisted on this. How marvelous.
The “feel” of the stage is as genuine as it ever was.
The entire complex, from the soundproof shop to the new educational center, is absolutely amazing.
I’m overwhelmed. I think my father would enthusiastically applaud and offer kudos to all the dedicated people that made, and continue to make this dream a reality.
