Meadalist Winners

Two members of the Staples High School Girls Golf Team were the medalists today at the Borck Jr Golf Tournament hosted by the Patterson Club in Fairfield. Two-time defending champion Faith Garcia (l), a Staples captain, was the overall medalist with a 78, and Anelise Browne carded an 85 as the 15 and under medalist. The girls advance to round one of match play Tuesday and hope to advance to round two in the afternoon. Finals are Wednesday, and Staples has a good chance of representation in the finals as two other Staples captains, Mary Bennewitz and Christie Cantor, also advanced. This is the 43rd year of the Borck, held in memory of Jay Borck, a young golfer who died of a cerebral hemorrhage in 1968 at the age of 16. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Contributed photo
