Marpe Appoints Real Property Committee

Westport First Selectman Jim Marpe announced today the establishment of a Real Property Committee to act as his advisor for property purchases and leases.

It will also advise on acquisitions and sales of property for open space, municipal and recreational uses, conservation, rights of way and investments, the announcement said.

Appointed committee members are: former Selectwoman Helen Garten, Marty Fox and Iain Bruce.

According to Marpe, the committee expands the mission of the Land Acquisition Committee established by former First Selectwoman Diane Farrell during the late 1990s.

“The Real Property Committee members will review and keep abreast of the current real estate market, as well as investigate opportunities and options that may be presented to boards and commissions for possible action, which will ultimately benefit the Town.” Marpe said.

“I am confident that Helen, Marty and Iain possess the dedication and expertise that will inform these types of transactions going forward,” he added.

In making the announcement Marpe also said that resident Tom Bloch has been appointed to the Westport Housing Authority board, filling the vacancy left by Charles Carey, who was elected to the Representative Town Meeting.

Another appointment Marpe announced was that of Kate Boyle Kirby to serve on the Non-Union Supervisory and Non-Union Non-Supervisory Pension Committees. She will also serve as a member of the Municipal Employees Pension Committee.
