There was little change in the pace of residential demolitions in Westport this year, the Building Department said today. New residential construction also was little changed.
Westport issued 118 demolition permits this year versus 106 last year, it said. It noted that 20 of this year’s permits were at one site – the Westport Housing Authority’s Sasco Creek Village complex at 1655 Post Road East.
Since WestportNow began monitoring and compiling demolition statistics 10 years ago for its popular WestportNow Teardown of the Day series, the rate has hovered around 100 a year –- about 1 percent of the town’s housing stock.
There were 109 new residential building permits issued in 2014 versus 103 a year ago. New commercial permits numbered 15 versus 3 in 2013, the Building Department said.
